Re: [RC] [RC] beet pulp?? - Laurie Durgin

Interesting. My vet once said not to feed over 10 lbs at a time. (which I never did). But the x-trainer fed her tb lesson horses 15 lbs 2x a day. And our tb and qh got 8-10 lb 2x a day grain plus 24 hr hay and the lactating mare 7lb plus oil, 3x time a day. If I fed our tb only 4 lb at a time,I'd have to feed him 3 to 4 times a day (with his 24 hr. hay available). He gets 6 lbs 2x a day now and that is down from 9lbs he was getting on those fiber pellets and changed to the new grain. (duh, I read the label after learning from ridecamp and Susan.) Rascal's mom

When you say grain, do you mean grain like oats or corn, etc, or are you
referring to the beet pulp...? In any event, the rule of thumb is don't feed
more than about four pounds of grain max per meal to any horse. If you're
worried about the volume of the beet pulp after soaking, nope, don't worry
about it. The stomach empties faster the fuller it gets, so precluding outflow
problems (like an impaction colic or torsion), it'll never get full enough to
be a problem, especially since the water content of the feed is so high after
    soaking it.

    Sounds pretty ideal to me.
