There is artery that runs close to the surface on the face. If you draw a line between the ear and the eye it is a little behind that line. It is normally very easy to find. I often take the pulse there.

Between the eye and ear?  Never heard that one
before.  Where between the eye and ear?  Many's
the time I've been sans stethescope and wanted
to do a pulse check.  If I can't get one from
the jaw, I try the tail, but that can be
exceedingly awkward.  How do I do it between
    the eye and ear?
