    True enough, and I have seen more than one rider off their horse for the whole ride.  Don't the rules now state that the team much complete ?

    The horse isn't really necessary.  Remember that Gordy Ainsleigh left his horse behind at the 1974 Tevis, and ultra-running was born.  Gordy now has two Tevis buckles and 17 Western States Endurance Run buckles!
