    There are companies that let you try.  Podium through Steve Elliott and Hal Hal send you a demo.  My roommate had it for two weeks.  It is a great saddle.  Unfortunately it absolutely did not fit my horse, however, my roommate is getting one.  There are other makers that let you try them.  Also, buying a used saddle is a great idea.  That is where I got my SR.  Endurance.net has a lot of classified ads for saddles with pics and most of them would work something out for a tryout.  I have more saddles than horses [barely]......mb
