    [RC] Adventures of Billy and Blaze and their buddy Cabby: a new song - Sue Brown

    My riding buddy, Aarene, has done it again.? Her creativity has brought us another gem about Billy, Blaze, and Cabby...this time it’s about Billy and Cabby completing their 10 rides this year and getting the Sandybaar award.? (PNER award for completing 10 or more rides consecutively without a pull in a season.)? She said she woke up during the night with the words to the song and wrote it then!

    We’re proud of how the boys did this year...we kept them slow and steady and are now working towards a faster pace in the 50s at the start of next year’s season and then bumping up to 75s a bit later in the season.?

    For those of you who don’t know, these are the two geldings who got lost in central Oregon last year for 4 ½ days after being blown out of their hot tape paddocks by another loose horse.? (They now have heavy duty paddocks that are bolted to the trailer that we *know* they can’t get out of. <g>) ?It was Billy’s first night away from home so it was pretty traumatic for him -- we had quite a bit of work to do after we got them back.? Both horses are doing very well and are now behaving like good little campers and really enjoying their job.

    Sue

    Aarene's Note:
    We were delighted to return home after Foothills and see a big note on the
    board at the barn that read, "Congratulations Billy and Cabby--10 completions
    in a row!  Sandybaar!"

    Apparently the horses were a bit confused by the fuss, as I heard new music
    coming from the stalls late into the evening.  I wrote down all the verses I
    heard, for your entertainment.

    (To the tune of "Oh, My Darling Clementine")

    CHORUS:
    Oh m' darlin, Oh m' darlin'
    Oh m' darrrrrlin' Sandybaar
    Seems we trotted all the summer
    For to get our Sandybaar

    Up the hills at Cascade Challenge
    Down the hills at Renegade
    Over stumps at Klickatat and also at
    Home on the Range.

    <repeat CHORUS>

    Trotted over Grizzley Mountain
    Trotted over Alpine too,
    Went through valleys at Sunriver
    And the deep deep sand at Dunes.

    <repeat CHORUS>

    Lotsa times we finished last place
    And it seemed so very far
    But we're happy and we're singing
    'Cuz we got our Sandybaar!

    <repeat CHORUS>

    There were vets and there were timers
    There were guys in water trucks!
    All the folks who held great rides and
    All the crew who wished us luck.

    <repeat CHORUS>

    Thanks to all the folks who helped us
    And we all know who you are
    'Cuz without you, couldn't do it
    Couldn't get our Sandybaar!

    <repeat CHORUS>

    Thanks to Steve and thanks to Jerry
    Thanks to Vonda, George and Gene,
    Jim and Maddie, we're so glad you
    helped us get our Sandybaar!

    Now we're singing, really loud now,
    Hope that everyone goes that far
    Ten completions, in one season,
    And we've got our Sandybaar!

    The spirited horse, which will of its own accord strive to win the race, will run still more swiftly if encouraged.
