I insure my mare (have insured all my horses) for about $300 a year, covers up to $7500 in Major Medical, and of course Mortality.  There is a $250 deductible which unfortunately I've more than met many years.  It really saved my wallet (and probably one of my horses) more than once.  A colic, lameness injury, anything major, can really add up. 

If you need a name, I will give it to you.  I go through a broker that has been very helpful.
