I live and work in the PMU area in
Alberta.
The PMU farms are clean and well run.
The horses are taken great care of and turned out daily. They do not start
collecting urine until after 3 months pregnant. They get the best feed because
you need the good feed to get the best urine concentrates. They are stabled face
to face side by side for sociallizing. Most have better barn conditions then the
stabled horses at the riding arenas I have been in, where stalls are small and
solid walls.
PMU foals sell in Canada for $300 and
up. They usually have very good stallions and blood lines. The industry is
really improving all the time. Top selling foal at one PMU sale was $4800
CAD.
They do not send babies to slaughter.
They are not meaty enough. Would you butcher a calf??? Common sense and
education of the industry is a must before believing everything you
hear.
The foals you are paying $300US to
rescue would sell for $150 and up Canadian. With the money exchange they are
getting double  the true value.
Great way to play on peoples emotions
and make a really good profit.
Please do your homework and ask first
before encouraging people to make this a common practice. I consider it false
advertising.
Try to find a 1 ton or 3/4 ton truck
used on this province. Same thing they ship them all south across the boarder.
As the sales man said to me. Why would we sell them in Canada for $15000 CAD
when we can get the same paid in US and almost double our profit.
