[RC] Results of the Masters whatever - Maryanne Stroud Gabbani

Been pulling in the stats on yesterday's race. The good news is that
apparently the mortality rate was 0% or close. Yay, whoever.

The Maktoum family made a clean sweep of things. No surprise. Something
like 99% of the Egyptian riders were pulled or pulled themselves after
the first loop. Most of them had been reimbursed for their training
expenses by the Organising Committee to the tune of LE 1000, which is
about 4 months salary for them since the majority were grooms from the
pyramids stables. Somehow they figured that they had a better chance of
    collecting after the first loop.

Some disappointment to those expecting a grand celebration after. The
fireworks and dinner were cancelled and the winning family swiftly
decamped to the Gulf (after reputedly firing the entire embassy staff
here) about halfway through the finishing ceremonies. Too bad. People
were looking forward to the fireworks over the pyramids.

Minor controversy. A lead rider from Abu Dhabi was disqualified for the
use of a whip (crop) in the finishing loop. There is a reported
complaint filed by the rider or his team....with the FEI...against the
FEI...against the winner????? No one knows. Still waiting the dust to
    settle.
