One year we got some hay that had a heavy concentration of
pepper grass in it. Quite an interesting situation...one of our horses
swelled in all 4 legs and was stiff just as you describe. A couple had
swelling in just the front feet and one was swollen only in the hind feet.
Apparently this stuff can cause something like an allergic reaction?
Anyway, we removed the hay and all the horses were just fine. But
something in the diet might be the cause. Food for thought.
