Re: [RC] supplements (joint) - Magnumsmom

    Hi Leanne,

Yes, I use joint supplements. I think a good percentage
of endurance riders do these days to protect their
    athletic equine friends.

Personally I use Sure-Flex. It has a good combination of
both CS and GAGS and synergistic minerals without anything
anti-inflamitory like MSM in it. I know the label says
"Perna Mussel" instead of CS, but that's because Cosequin
threatened to (or did) sue them. The original Sure-Flex
label said CS and GAGS. That's the first time I saw
Sure-Flex on the shelf. When they changed the label, I
found out why. Cosequin simply patented their label that
has both CS and GAGS on it. Unfortunately for them, if
the label ALSO has MSM on it, it apparently does not fall
within their patent (or all those products licensed their
labels from them... if someone knows the whole story).

ANYWAYS, I use Sure-Flex in my endurance horse. I don't
want any daily anti-inflamitories in his diet. If he has
a problem, then I'll add them seperately.

The 'ol TB is another issue. I know he has arthritis and
he feels a whole heck of a lot better if he's on everything
under the sun... GAGS, CS, MSM, injectable, oral...

My anectdotal evidence is I've personally seen dramatic
improvement in several horses using just the oral joint
supplements. I'd suggest endurance horses be started
on some kind of CS and / or GAGS by the age of ten to
    protect those joints.

CS and GAGS work better when feed together. Sure-Flex
seems to work very well for my endurance horse who does
not have any problems. If you over feed CS and GAGS, it's
    just expensive waste.

There are lots of discussions in the archives over the
years about joint supplements if you search for them.
