[RC] My first 25! - Lisa M Pardus

     Hi folks,
After one long year of trial and error, wondering, waiting, problem
solving, and two complete ten mile introductory rides (including one
disastrous incomplete CTR), we are FINALLY READY! I watched, read, helped
crew, and talked with other endurance and CTR riders. (Susan, I KNOW I
was a pain, but thank you for answering my many, silly questions!)
FOF will be our FIRST endurance ride! I am looking forward to this. I am
already looking for things that will keep us from riding! (I am SUCH a
worry wart!) I called my vet at 12:30 am. on Saturday because my mare was
heated, biting at her near side, rolling on that side, acting agitated
and wouldn't stand still. Every time I made her stand, she would stomp
her hind leg, or paw with her foreleg. After waking the poor man up, he
said it was probably just a beetle bite, or she probably laid down on a
hill of ants. Since she was moving, and acting animated it was not colic.
AArrrggg!!! :0) He told me to give her a bath, and that should take care
of it. Well of course after panicking and thinking the worst, I went out
after I hung up and there she was, looking for food, saying Hi mom! What
are you doing up this late? DOUBLE AARRGG!!! I DID hose her off, thinking
my vet told me to give her a bath to punish me for waking him up! (I know
better, but it helped alleviate my guilt at bothering him with such a
    trivial issue!)
Anyway, Maleka and I had a great ride yesterday, and we hope to get a
few more days in this week. We are on a beet pulp based food from OBS. It
is a racing blend, and since race horses use it, I am not worried about
anything in it that would show up on a drug test. She also gets some beet
pulp in her food. We are going to start the lots of little feedings a day
tomorrow. I will have LOTS of buckets (it is an away from base camp vet
check) hay, and best of all two of my friends to help crew!!!! Howard,
Debbie, Denise; Patti is coming!!! YIPPPEEE!!!!
Well, we have had some good training days, fun on the trail, and we are
as ready as we can get at this point! I am looking forward to finally
    entering this sport!
     C'ya on the trails!!!!
