[RC] Falling horses/ My NC - Rides 2 Far

    >>I've been going over what I could've done differently, and came to the
    conclusion - not much.

same here. ya'll will have to get used to no caps typing. my new one
armed style. what happened to me was that he hit a nice big trot on a
downgrade and just tripped. then he kept trotting in back faster than he
could crawl in front so his face planted slightly to the left and his
right shoulder dug in and it was sort of a half flip skidding on the
right side. Didn't even hurt except for the collarbone. It did scrape
my fake tan off my knees. >g<

I was a little disappointed the version given to ridecamp (that I'd
fallen off from a spook) was as undramatic as it was. I was hoping for
something really dramatic insinuating I might die that would make
everyone feel really worried and wish they'd been nicer to me and all
that for awhile. >eg< Josie told me that she told them "If my mom fell
off when Kaboot spooks she'd have broken every bone in her body by now"

Things I learned: When you send your daughter off on her horse for help,
have her take *your* horse with her. Otherwise the person who is
gradually beginning to feel the broken collarbone will be yanked around
by a neighing horse who wants his buddy.

2nd. BEFORE heading out on a 45 minute drive over bumpy backroads to a
hospital that's well hidden, take time to find Nina Barnett and get
    drugs.

third: when you tell your husband you would prefer to sleep sitting up in
the truck seat, make sure that you can get the truck door open by
yourself and don't have to wait till you hear someone going by hunting a
loose horse to go wake up your husband to rescue you.

fourth: if you have your husband leave you in a truck with a bottle of
pain killers, have him remove the child proof lid first.

fifth: If you aren't going to let your child ride with someone else,
don't take them out to the finish line to watch everyone else finish.

sixth: Don't try to make your way through a mob trying to buy polar
fleece shirts if you have a freshly broken collarbone

seventh: It is very difficult to get deodorant under an arm that you
can't left away from your body. It requires great skill to put deodorant
under your left arm with your left hand.:-P

One thing I am vowing is to KEEP 2 percoset pills with me in case this
ever happens to me or my kid. All I could think the whole time was what
if this had been her out in the middle of a 25 mile loop?

Just some quick notes on the ride. The wind came in big time on the last
leg for most. It was pulling up tent pegs and pretty wild. The rain
started pelting around the time the winners came in. The first 2 came in
together, no racing. I watched through about 8th before it started
really coming down. the riders coming in still had on tank tops and that
looked really cold with the wind and rain. the course was very tough and
took its toll. Heard at the meeting that someting like 8 out of 11 or so
heavyweights finished. some riders were getting really close to the
cutoff time and I don't know if they made it or not. it's a tough course.
the rain stopped in time to have a nice dinner and the party was great.
there's a rider from Michigan who has a red headed 17 year old son who
can play the blues like nobody's business on the guitar. Tommy Crain &
Crandall were great too. the radio club was pretty amazing and I was
really impressed to see what Robby Doll went through, having all his
computer equipment set up in a horsetrailer to keep you all informed. Amy
Whelan hadn't seen her baby in a week and we agreed that it would be much
easier for he to drive to Nevada to go to the NC next year than to put
another one on herself. :-) I'm sure Connie & Mike would agree. :-)

Thanks to all...and by the way, I hope ya'll appreciate the fact that I
made that horrible face (in the Thursday photos) in public to fullfill a
promise to you. :-) P.S. If you refuse to try to take off the hospital
gown right after they made you suffer through getting it on...they'll let
you take it. Then you can cut it off to make a stylish shirt!
