RE: [RC] Trouble going downhill - Missy Whitmire

Hi, my 13 yo Arab, Miad, has always had problems going downhill. We have been competing in endurance and LD rides together since 1997, and he gets A's on back and gait, but is uncoordinated on the downhill.  He has improved some over the years, and we can trot some not-so-steep grade downhills, but on the steep, long ones I get off.  We have learned to tail downhill, after months of trial and error, and to the constant amusement of my training ride buddies.  I can also "send" him ahead of me on a long steep downhill, and he will actually wait at the bottom for me to get down.  We successfully made it through the Old Dominion 50 last year using this method.  It works for us.  Good luck to you and your pinto/arab, and when in doubt, get off and lead him down.  P.S.  I started using an Orthoflex flexible tree saddle 3 years ago, and he greatly improved.
