    [RC] 1/4 horse - Paddi

    Good day
My vet Dr Roxy Bell rode a quarter horse in endurance years ago and did fine even in the 50 mile rides. Ride to the horse.
I will talk tack. The nice thing about endurance is that you can use anything. Diane Dupperon rode in the Pan Ams for the Canada west team in Manitoba with a huge heavy western saddle. If it fits the horse use it. Her picture was in the August Canadian readers digest with an article on Arabians
Even for trail riding I love the halter bridles out of biothane. If you like the look of leather go to beta. They are great for everyday use and are so easy to clean. They just make sense.
Do not rush out and buy anything special for the first few rides. You will discover what you need and what fits the horse as you ride.
Heck I started out with a old Morgan, western saddle, small trailer , a tent  and a 1/2 ton. Found out the first thing I needed was a 3/4 ton, camper and new horse trailer. VBG My husband said the NEW young arab horse was the cheapest part of the deal. I then needed biothane tack. Bought a bridle off a friend who picked it up at the Tevis. Went wow this is fun and I started designing and sewing  biothane tack.
My first 25 mile ride was great. It got me a new horse , a new job and a new company...lol  Still have the same husband who puts up with my crazy hours and riding.
As your horse gets into better condition his body will change many times. So will your tack. A Skito pad is a good idea and a Dixie Midnight pad is fabulous. I really love my Dixie Midnight pad.
I think that even for just everyday riding I want my horse as comfortable as if she or he was going to ride 100 miles. I buy my tack accordingly.
I have decided to try driving my older gelding this winter. I am having a hard time convicing the harness maker I use (we don't sew harness) that I really do want an a royal blue with orange overlay driving harness.

    Happy Trails
