[RC] Norco Riverdance, the trip home - Becky Hackworth

Well, I did live through the evening, thanks to the help of a good many people.  Again, THANK YOU TO EVERYONE!!!!

Was planning to stay until Sunday anyway, but now there was no way I was leaving Sat.  So once again slept in the back seat.  Did sleep much better this time.

Got up with the sun.  Ed had eaten everything in site and drank his whole bucket of water again.  Got packed up and went to breakfast with Mike and Sue.  Boy was that good.  Cheese Omelet with hash browns, LARGE OJ and large milk and coffee..

Gas up before getting on the freeway.  Hate to stop in LA, usually no room for rigs and getting back on the freeway is just too confusing.  Didn't get going until 9.  Ok, it is already hot.  Got down the road and ready for a stop and gas again.  I am feeling like shades of yesterday.  Not good.  I spend a few minutes in the minimart.  Bought lots of fluids.  Over the next 10 miles I drank 48 oz of Gatorade.  That almost quenched my thirst.  Not quite.  Felt better though.  Got to Fresno and headed on the last leg up the hill to home.  About 30 miles.  Got within 6 miles when.......CRASH, BANG, CRUNCH, SCREECH, OH S***T.   Well, at least there is a cell signal, and a wide spot in the road.  HWY 41 doesn't have very many of those.  It is a good thing to be near one when you break down.  Called hubby to tell him where I am, and to call the tow truck.  Please?  No problem.  So I sit there and play "Freecell" on my palmpilot.  OK, I get bored easily.

Oh, yeah, I did look under the truck.  Most of the drivetrain  was lying on the road.  Yep, should have replaced that Universal Joint after all.  That must have been the awful noise all along.

With some fancy maneuvering, got the Dually on to the tow truck and towed the horse / trailer behind.  Being a crewcab Dually, it really doesn't fit on to a regular tow bed.  Only 3 wheels were touching the bed in the back.  Good thing those are strong chains!

Got home, finally.  Horse is in great shape.  Marc and Roy ( two horses in the front / greeting pasture ) get him all revved up and he "self-lounges" himself to his pen.
I can't move, but my horse is looking GREAT.  Gets into his pen, drops and rolls on each side, then trots off.

What a weekend.  Now I just need to replace the driveshaft.  Oh well.  That one did have 190,000 miles on it  :-((

Happy Trails to all, and once again.....THANK YOU TO EVERYONE...but especially Sue and Mike Benson, and Lynne and Julie......Still had a blast in spite of everything....but I am not going to a ride without my camper again!
