    Re: [RC] Volunteering - Merryben

Interesting and true post Julie.  At an interesting time too.  I am working on an artical for EN re ride managers but dont think it will be done by the deadline for next issue.  Not many people are aware that we have lost a couple of our rides this week because the RM is just quitting putting them on and is so upset, she has quit AERC.  I hope that she will come back but am not sure at this point.  The riders were not only rude, they used language that would not be tolerated by most people.  This is a really nice lady and tried her best but the lazy whiners who can't stand to do a real 50 miles caused her to quit.  One of the complaints was that there was a snake in the water pond.  I laughed myself silly about that and thought she was kidding but no, I checked and that was one of the complaints.  I told her to DQ every single one of them for unsportsmanlike conduct and let them pay their $100 and explain to the P & G committee what was so bad that they had to call her the names they did.  Unfortunately, she is way to nice of a person to do that.

Anyway, the gist is to realize that RM's are most often doing the best they can and you should offer constructive help and not just bitch and whine.

The people I talked to that really liked the ride are all 10,000 plus type riders.  Still working on the article....mb
