[RC] Tightening girths-new fleece pad - Lysane Cree

I've just been wondering about tightening girths and how even the girth should be - I know some people ride with very loose girths, while others tighten it up as much as it will go, so how much is too much?  Also should the girth be on the exact same holes on the billets on both sides? Maybe I'm just finding something to worry about...:)

I just purchased a new fleece pad - an Aussie enduro,  Athlete plus model. It is thick and probably double the thickness of what my other pad was. It is so soft and cushiony and it works really well. The only thing is that when I first used it, I put my girth on the usual hole and when I went to get on the saddle, it rolled off of my horses back onto his side because of all the padding. So I have to tighten the saddle up quite snug so that it doesn't roll. I've adjusted the girth so that it is almost on the same holes on both sides but it always seems to go up higher (more holes) on the left side. I'm just worrying about tightening up the girth too much. The girth I am using is a Wintec and I have never had any problems with girth rubs or anything like that.
