    Patti,
Fjords are cool horses, but I think your TWH/Qtr horse will do better
than they would. Think muscle, and think long, lean, flat muscle for
endurance. More muscle=more heat and more lactic acid. They could do the
mileage, but it sounds like you want to do a little faster than just "coming
in on time". If you want a horse that can go the distance quickly and
recover from it swiftly, look for a horse that's built like a long distance
human runner is. It doesn't have to be an arab, but that body type is
there in the arab and many arab crosses. Individuals of many breeds have
done well in endurance, but the body type is usually in evidence with those
    individuals.

Hi all! I've done a few LD rides with my TWH/QH mare over the past year.
We've had an absolute blast, but I really think just coming in on time
(whilst still getting good scores) is as good as she's going to do. A great
trail horse, but not neccessarily cut out for endurance, with a HW in
    Florida anyways.

I am also in a position right now where I wouldn't mind getting a youngin'
and letting him grow for a bit. (Trying to get preggers, so I know I won't
    be competing for awhile)

Enter PMU Foal Quest... their program sounds like worthy one and they have
lots of Fjord cross horses availible. Most are sired by a full Fjord and the
    dam is a Fjord cross.

Do ya'll think they'd make a decent endurance horse for a heavyweight? I
thought they were known for being able to carry a LOT of weight, but do they
have the recovery capabilties and such for endurance?
