RE: [RC] LD 6 hours, NRR needs VOLUNTEERS! - Lynne Glazer

    John,

Besides the fact that I conceptually deplore the idea of turning LD into a long pleasure ride:

At Norco Riverdance we would absolutely hate the concept of 12 hr LD--that means our outcheck has to be manned a whole lot longer and our anti-vandalism on-trail monitors, number checkers and street crossing law enforcement patrols would also have to work longer shifts.

I would not be able to put on this ride, because we depend on being able to lift and shift vets and volunteers to subsequent vet checks--and we can't draft enough volunteers to cover those extended hours.

**If any NRR riders are reading this, we need more vet check volunteers! Too many of our volunteers have turned into riders this year, perhaps because of the fact that we're taking next year off. We'll feed 'em lunch and give them a lovely polo shirt... :-)

Anybody else run a ride that needs 80 volunteers, short of the NCs or ROC? Ah, the urban ride experience.

    Lynne

I was also thinking on this, that the MAX time shouldn't really be a big issue in the LD events.

That is, max time is more related to RM and Vet convience because they have
to be there till the competition is over (i.e. the max time).

The participants in LD shouldn't have to worry much about being overtime,
its a shorter distance and they need to be able to go at whatever pace is
    correct for them.

Why do we have a cut-off time for LD?

LD's are only held in conjunction with endurance distances (where the max
time is at least 12 hours). Why not make the max time in LD 12 hours
(inclusive of the 30 min pulse criteria:)

It's no burden on the RMs the Vets or the Horses is it??

    johnt
