Re: [RC] Non-Arab Horses?? - Rides 2 Far

    She also does Pony Club, so we need a horse that Jumps;
    > She likes riding a horse that has a lot of color (either Pinto or
    > Appy); because of her age, I want a horse that is SANE; it has to be >
tall (best would be 15hh or taller, she'll probably be close to 6 feet.

10 years old?...take over mom and go for SANE. If I had a 10 year old
child with that growth rate (my parents are both under 5'4, not likely!)
I'd be especially careful about getting sane. She's gotta be gangly. :-)
If she wants color, tell her she'd better pray the sane horse has it. If
that doesn't work out, get her some flourescent tack. (*That* would give
that judge that doesn't like long legs something to choke over!)

My daughters used to do pony club but in the interest of the sanity of
the other pony club moms I decided we'd better drop out. I had their
kids dunking their helmets in buckets of water and passing around
waterbottles floating in a 5 gal. bucket. I think it upset the mom who
had brought a nice tray of 2-oz. Dixie cups for their refreshment midway
through a 100 degree lesson at mid-day. My crowning achievement was when
my junior decided to sponge on the fly during the crosscountry course.
    >g< (It was camp, not a show O.K.?)

Anyway, I had a purebred Arab named Count Basque. If you were near
Atlanta I'd tell you to find him. 15.1 and went beautifully hunt seat.
He had never jumped in his life but the junior needed a horse for camp.
I have video of him clearing the (at least) 2'6" STAIRCASE for her the
first day. He just took right to it and seemed to enjoy it. So, don't
completely rule out the purebreds. Some just don't look good jumping,
but there's a pretty wide variety of types. I know there's some pony
club prejudice against Arabs to deal with but then I've seen several out
there. Maybe your daughter could consider a pretty head stand out
    enough in that crowd? >g<

P.S. Talk a couple of pony club buddies into doing an LD with you.
Convince them it will make their horses better on the water jumps.
