Maryanne, you make some valid points.  WNV is not a serious threat to humans, 
and there is no vaccine.  It is endemic in Egypt, and, consequently, people 
and, perhaps, horses have developed immunity.

But here in the US, we haven't.  It may not kill many humans, but it has a 
much higher fatality rate among horses.  I may be enriching Fort Dodge when I 
vaccinate, but I choose to do so with open eyes and after talking to many 
veterinarians.  I know the vaccine is unproven.  But I also know that horses 
are dying very close to me.  And I am not aware of any vaccinated horses that 
have died after the immunity period was passed.  Perhaps I'm operating in 
ignorance--it wouldn't be the first time!--does anyone know of a case of a 
vaccinated horse, after the immunity period, dying from WNV?

I am sorry about horses dying from over or under feeding.  That's always a 
tragedy.  But willful negligence is not comparable to the threat of WNV.
