Me too.  And my "reasoning" is just about like yours:
I never think about it.  No real reason.  Well, except
that all head gear does give me a headache, so I don't
wear anything on my head, ever.  

Back in the days when I was a jr rider and had to wear
one in some circumstances, I had quite a few occasions
where I stayed on the horse, but the helmet did not
stay on my head.  I understand that today's helmets
are better made and hopefully wouldn't do that.  But,
back then it was a good argument for not bothering to
wear one; even my mother thought so when she witnessed
the helmet flying but the daughter still on the horse.
 :)

As I've mentioned though, I do plan to buy one this
weekend as I've got a first timer to take on a LD
ride.

Ditto on the gloves.  I feel naked without them. ;)
