Re: [RC] Helmets - Maggie Mieske

I team pen and for a little while last summer sort of lost my head in
"fitting in" and chose to either wear a cowboy hat or no hat per our
association rules. After seeing some of the spills and thrills and taking
into account how darn HARD those pipe fences are, not to mention the
occasional kick from a cow (this during numbering them long before chasing
the buggers), I have decided I WILL wear my helmet. Especially after coming
off this summer at the AHAM ride and contemplating what it would have
sounded like had my SKULL hit the rock instead of my helmet...I am wearing
my helmet. ALL the time. No one is excluded. If you want to ride one of
my horses, you wear a helmet. My 19 year old daughter HATES being sent back
    to get the helmet!! :) Anyway, I don't care if I don't fit in....I can't
replace my brain. :) Though Nelson might disagree with me. :) Besides,
it's not the Arabs out there performing the spills and thrills...it's the
Quarter Horses and Paints and such! Especially the ones who are hyped to
the hilt the minute they enter the arena! I swear Malik KNOWS when it's
time when the announcer says "Team, the cows are ready and the flag is up"
before he even bothers to waste any energy! :)
    Maggie
