Ridecamp: [RC] Horse lapping water

This past weekend I attended a ride.  My horse was quiet in awe of the water
there.  She drank the water better than any she ever has away from home.
This was well water which was in a permanent tank at the ride site.  She is
on well water at home as well, and we haul water to the rides.  When she
drank from the water trough on site she drank a lot and then would just lap
the water like a dog for quite a while.  I am thinking there must be a
mineral or something that she needs in the water.  At home she is on lush
green pasture, a good free choice mineral supplement and a vitamin
supplement in her beet pulp mash.  Any ideas?
