Nothing succeeds in shutting up skeptics like success. And there is no 
excuse for rudeness, which is what it seems your friend found some of. 
While there may be a few snobs out there sometimes you will find the 
kidding is more good natured than serious. And yes vets do kid also - 
like the one who accused me of riding a brood mare (never mine she top 
10ed). Or the time the vet looked me straight in the eye and said ( with 
a sly smile ) if you tell me it's an Arab I'll have to pull you but if 
it's gaited she looks pretty good.

So tell your friend to go back and have fun - independent of what anyone 
says. They may end up eating their words.
