Re: [RC] Speed control and the Great Debate - Colleen Egleston

Okay, you got a point there. I'm thinking of trying the S hackamore, I've
seen it in Sport Tack and I think it's worth a shot. I would like to be as
gentle on my horses' mouth as I can be, that's why I have an aversion to a
stronger bit. I wish I did have a better knowledge of bits, I guess I need
to slap on the old reading glasses.

"I refuse to go to anything other than an eggbutt snaffle" Well,,minds are
like parachutes, remember.Olympian David O'Connor and other of the
cross-country eventers often use ferocious gag bits DISGUISED as
snaffles.(See recent cover of Practical Horseman and look very carefully at
the reins where they slide throught the rings of the "gag-snaffle".)Im not
saying bits are the answer to everything, but they have their place, and most
    are poorly understood.Best wishes.Ray O.
