I mix my own. I do have the mix like your vet sells
then I have iodine mixed with turpentine then I have
the plain ole iodine.
I've put the iodine/formaldehyde mix on my multi-day
horse and left his EZ boots on all week plus the 2-day
trip home (they wouldn't come off!). His feet were
none the worse for wear.
On the other hand, your observation seems logical to
me AND formaldehyde is hard to come by now-a-days (at
least in this area).
One consideration would be the brittleness of the hoof
wall. I'd imaging a good moisturizer on the cornet
band would be helpful.
