    Peggy,

Our neighbor bales the timothy and brings it on the
hay wagon into our barn. He & his son or his cousin
unload it into the loft and stack it with my husband's
help. I supply the cookies & lemonade afterwards. We
paid $1.50/bale one year in a drought when hay was
scarce, and Charlie apologized for "overcharging us".
    He makes WONDERFUL horse hay.

We do have cold winters here by my standards, but I
grew up in central Florida. In January thru March it
can get as low as 10* F at night. We have occasional
streaks of below freezing highs for 3 or 4 days. We
do have to use tank heaters to keep the field tanks
    open.

We are in the snow belt for Lake Effect Snow, so we
may get 180-210" a year. GREAT for skiing, snow
shoeing or the sleigh! We tend to take Jan & Feb off
from riding, but we could put snow pads on & keep
riding if we were so inclined. We use it as down time
& a chance to play at winter sports.

There are a multitude of rides in PA, OH and VA - all
around 3-4 hrs from where I live. (Including Ft
    Armstrong and the Old Dominion.)

I have loops of trails that range from 5 - 32 miles in
a mix of woods, logging roads, dirt/gravel roads and
road shoulder. I have 80+ miles of rails-to-trail
just a 30 minute trailer ride away. If I could only
show you the view off of my front porch!

We moved here 5 years ago & I really do like it here!
Now if I can finish recovering from my ACL
reconstruction, I want to start riding some more
before winter sets in. No more black diamonds with
moguls for me when I ski. I'm on the bunny slope this
    winter!
