    I wonder if it depends if the supplement is fat soluble or water soluble.
    In the case of humans, marijuana and I believe ibuprophene (sp) are fat
    soluble and therefore test long after use is discontinued, however cocaine
    and substances like speed are water soluble and test free a few days later.
    
    Just a guess.  No, I am not an avid drug user, just interested in chemistry.
