I'm not being facetious when I say the main change you should make is to
stop riding on pavement. There aren't very many paved parts of endurance
rides and an endurance horse needs to be able to slide the hoof a bit when
going down the (non-paved) trail. Shoeing to prevent slippage on pavement
could ultimately lead to joint problems in an endurance horse.

There's not much pavement at the Ohio rides, but what if she must ride
pavement to get to training trails?

The shoe that's working well for me is St. Croix eventers. (Thank you,
Angie!) They get an itty-bit sticky in the dry, hard pack, but it's a long
sight better than borium or studs (I shudder to think of doing miles and
miles with shoes that don't slip a little). Eventers are great for mud. I
don't trot pavement and my mare has an occasional slip, but it's not like
she's sliding all over the place and giving me a feeling of insecurity. She
scaled the Kentucky shale in May pretty easily without a slip whereas my
riding companions, using plain ol' flat shoes, were sliding all over the
    place.
