Do not be so quick to judge. It is because of who WON the Haggin Cup. Hal
Hall is a very prominant businessman in Auburn and has quite a history with
the Tevis and the town in general. They are essentially touting "one of
their own".
I know, because when my husband went to ride in 98, he was splashed, in full
color, on the front page of the sports section...the title "PLACER HIGH
SCHOOL GRADUATE COMES BACK AFTER 20 YEARS TO RIDE THE TEVIS".
Luckily he finished!
