[RC] Midsummer Madness--FUN! - Sundaez
Thanks to everyone at the new Midsummer Madness ride in Lake Los Angeles. Was
a ride in the moonlight, with beautiful rock formations and Joshua trees as
backdrop. There is an ethereal quality to riding in the soft, white sand in
the moonlight. The white Arabs looked like something out of those sample
greeting cards you sometimes get in the mail-- high stepping with crested
necks, illuminated by the moon.
It was a tough ride-- 2/3rds of the LD'rs and 1/3rd of the 50's were OT. Sand
was feltlock deep, and many of us weren't prepared for that. And yes sand is
very different from hills... I could almost feel my pony's tendons stretch
<g>. Riding at night was different as well. I sort of felt cocooned by the
darkness and lost track of what I was supposed to be doing!
I meet lots of great people. John Parke rode with me to the first check,
Carolyn and her wonderful family, Cathy and her white Arab who jigged the
whole ride ( he wanted to GO). Met Liz Masters and her regal looking black
Mustang. Charlene from TrailRite trotted up and introduced herself; everyone
was just sooo friendly and helpful. Also thanks to Heidi Helly who mentored
me (and top 10'd in the 50!...WOW) And a big thanks to Ride Management who
put on this ride. I will be back next year. This was my first ride...it was
hard...but oh so worth it!
