[RC] [RC] Wearing Eazy boots vs shoes - DreamWeaver

Ok, yes I may be rehashing, but my question is not which is better. Mine
is, IF I did buy a 4 set of eazy boots. How LONG would they last.

It all depends on your horse, the terrain you ride and how often you use them. For general conditioning purposes you should be able to get a few months of training rides out of a set of boots. They probably last a little bit longer on a barefoot horse, though it may have just seemed that way because I've not done any really long distance riding (nothing more than a one day 50) with a barefoot horse using easyboots.

think of this for money wise.... A set of 4 shoes every 8 weeks is $100. A
set of 4 eazy boots, $300(with all taxes, im in canada). Trims are only
$25. So, If they lasted for over 36 weeks, im then starting to save money.

since you mentioned having some problems with your horses feet, you might want to recalculate the 8 week interval between shoeing -- maybe to 5 or 6 week intervals.

so, if they last for over 36 weeks at riding average(not to this point
yet) 7 miles a day, would they last that long. If anyone out there know the
question to this........any info would be helpful. Also, So I do not wear
down my backs, SHOULD I just ride in all 4 eazy boots, OR, only ride with
them on the backs for really rocky areas... thanks for any help that can be
    given.

The boots wear is affected by a lot of factors so the only way you'll really know how long they will last is to try it and see. The way some horses move can also affect how and where the boots wear. Your horse will tell you if you need to use boots on the hind feet -- you may want to start out using them on the front feet until you are both familiar with them, then progress to using them on all 4 feet.

Here is a page link that at the bottom has photos of easyboots I used on a 5-day ride/250 miles:

http://members.tripod.com/ridephotos/ponyexpress/hoofstuff.html You can see that they are still in fairly good condition. I think the most competition miles I've gotten out of boots is probably around 600 to 700 miles. I don't think Rocky has ever worn completely thru an easyboot. Weaver's hind feet will wear thru because he hits and slides. Quite a bit of difference between the two horses and how they wear their boots.

As soon as I get the chance, I'll get the full Easyboot FAQ up on the website. It'll be linked from the main ridephotos page.
