    Karen,

Sorry not to catch up with you... Pretty busy & wiped
out by the time Mike made it in. They finished every
step of the 50 at Battle Hollow, but they didn't get
    the completion.

For those who didn't hear, some of the top finishers
saw my husband going back out on the last loop of the
fifty after nearly a third of the ride had already
finished. Mike & Buck were on their own schedule to
do a slow first 50. Those top finishers chipped in &
bought him some beta biothane reins as an "All Guts &
No Glory" award for being the last rider out on the
    course.

Yep - he was overtime. He came in leading Buck since
he was experiencing horrendous muscle cramps in his
legs, back and chest. He was pretty spaced out, too.
I really believe that Mike was dehydrated & lost too
many electrolytes. He hadn't eaten & drank as well as
he should. He also broke a rib... Buck lunged up out
of an embankment & the saddle's pommel caught him in
the chest. He's still sore there.

He couldn't eat after the ride (nausea) but he took
orange juice with a whopping dose of Buck's
electrolytes in them. He never even noticed the
lytes! By the next morning he felt much better except
    for the rib.

Buck was fine. Trotted out tired but sound & wanted
to eat/drink anything in sight. No leg swelling, but
a little stiff in one back leg the next morning. He's
still "talking" to Mike, so I guess they're still
    buddies.

We'll skip Ft Armstrong - too hot there historically.
Mike is planning on a ride in the last half of Sept.
It will either be the AHAO Distance Classic in Ohio
(near Akron) or the Stacey's Doncaster Renegade ride
in eastern Maryland. Anyone with info on the ride in
    Ohio as to terrain, etc?

Karen, THANK YOU so much for your encouragement &
working with Buck at the vet checks. Mike would have
never gone back out without your help. Your equine
    massages are WONDERFUL!
