    Hi,
Well I use the blunt English types. I have found that I didn't really need to use sharp ones because I just needed to use the extra pressure that would take the place of using a lot of leg. You can find different types usually at any tack store and sometimes at a feed store that has some tack. You can get any kind but I use the ones that are thicker and not to long, because I don't need it to hurt the horse but I need it just enough for him to be motivated to want to go forward.
Well, I was concerned that if I was in a tight situation that I might kick him forward and that I will forget that I have spurs on him. The first time I rode with them was around my property and just poked around. Stop him, use the spurs and go into the walk then use them into the trot. I did that so he got used to the feeling of them and so I could figure out where my leg is when I am not really "using" them and when I need to "use " them (when going into a faster trot).

When on the trail just be aware that you have something kind of spiky on the end of your leg so don't kick him hard or a certain way so it wont hurt him when you don't want to.

My horse is sometimes stubborn even though I know that he is fit and has the energy to speed up, and I would use the spurs and it would remind him do get moving. Spurs really helped me; all you need to remember is not to kick him hard when you don't need to.

If you do decide to get them, wherever you get them, ask the clerk or assistant at the store how to wear them and which kind would be suitable and all your questions.

Hope that you figure out a good way!!!
