My ISP offers Postini which is a virus and spam screening software. 
They simply quarantine items -- I log onto their server and make the 
final deliver or trash decision.

The Postini filters aren't perfect.  I have a Macintosh  and Norton 
Anti-Virus on my own machine is only screening for viruses that will 
bother the Mac OS.  So NAV will let the regular PC viruses through -- 
and a few have made it past Postini.  But when I get one that makes 
it past Postini I immediately tell my ISP  -- and they let Postini 
know so the filters can be modified.  Last week Klez had a whole 
bunch of variants coming through!

So the anti-virus protection isn't perfect, and is no substitute for 
having current anti-virus software on your machine. But the 
spam-stopping is wonderful -- every few days I log on and do a mass 
delete of 50 or 100 annoying "offers" that never make it through to 
my daily mail!
