    Angie....

You're not the only one with that problem. My guys want up in the
paddocks during the day because of the heat and flies....they stay
backed up in the stalls under the fans. I feed twice a day, and have to
wash the buckets after they eat, otherwise the flies are just
everywhere...bottom of the buckets are covered. Any leftover morsels in
the bucket sour in the heat and humidity anyway. However, my guys need
the beet pulp for weight retention and in their diet, so I just deal
with it. You don't have to soak if you're feeding shredded pulp. I
make it a little slushy, give it 5 minutes and feed. It's plenty moist.
I also pick up the poop in the paddocks and use a barn spray (6 oz of
Pemethrin per gallon of water) and spray down the poop areas and the
barn walls...this year daily. The flies have been EXTREMELY bad this
year....worse than any year I can remember. Dang, for a while there,
    couldn't even find fly strips.

When you gonna come ride this side of the mountain with me? Got a great
loop outta here thru Cohutta to try on you....'bout 9 hours.
