[RC] beet pulp - Dot Wiggins

Some horse like it at once, others have to acquire a taste for it.
We include some in the daily feed, not just at rides.   Grain mix, with supplements, and hay, mornings.   Soaked beet pulp with grain and added salt late afternoon.   Hay late evenings.   (Amounts of all depend on each horse,  weight, work, etc.)
Start with just a small handful, soaked, in the regular grain ration.   They will get used to it.  I never feed it plain, always add at least a little grain.
Some horses will not eat it away from home, no matter how used to it they are.  Don't know why.
For these a bran/grain mash works most of the time.
When they will eat a pound, dry weight,  or so, well soaked, at home on the days before a ride, they will have a gut pretty well loaded with fluids to start the ride even if they don't eat it later.
