Unless, of course, the ponied horse acts up and goes up in the air, putting
a bind on your dally, causing the rope not to slip. Then you're still the
proverbial dead duck.
I ponied at the race track for one summer when I was in college. I'd've
lost my pony license if a steward had ever caught me with a horse dallied.
Their rule was for the sake of safety.
I agree with the "no dally" poster--the safest way to pony is to hang onto
the rope. Whether or not you get jerked will depend on how well you've done
your homework halterbreaking whatever it is you're ponying.
