[RC] old dogs and new tricks! - Cindy Collins

Yup....I also forgot that if you're riding with a female type, you're

Oh, of course! Sooo, thank you Frank S. for holding Nellie last Saturday.
You are a gentleman and a scholar! On another note, just when you think
you know all the tricks you realize how much you can still learn. I
picked up several new things at the Wyoming 100 this past weekend. My 3
yr. old gelding bit my endurance mare on her back right where the saddle
goes about 10 mins. before I loaded her up to head to the above mentioned
100 miler. I was sick and sure it would knock me out. Hair was
completely gone and it was a little swollen. Started icing it immediately
and went on to the ride. Vet was also concerned. I was whining to my
friend, Kathy Arnold, and she suggested liquid bandage! Well, two
friends had some at home and brought it to me the next morning at 4 AM.
It worked like a charm. What a great idea. Wanted to share it with
everyone. Then, I noticed Frank shooting a couple of syringes of water
down Ranger's throat every time her electrolytes him? I asked what he was
doing and he said it washed 'em down, plus rinsed out their mouth to get
rid of the salty taste and prevented any salt burns! Another great idea
that I adopted from that point. Seems like there was a third thing, but
it has drifted from my conscience right now. Lastly, on the question
about shoes to wear in endurance: I love Ariats and own four pair, but I
mostly use them for dressage and training rides. I cannot run in them or
negotiate rough terrain on foot in them. So, I use running shoes or very
lightweight hiking shoes (waterproof if possible) and flexride stirrups
    w/cages. Cindy Collins
