Re: [RC] More LD thoughts - Becky Huffman

With all the statistics that have been collected the information should be
    available.

What are the percentages of "horses treated to starters" per distance ?
    and
are there regions that have consistently awarded vs not-awarded speed over a
period of years that could be compared?

let's see the numbers... do we really have a problem?

I see it as an evolution of the sport and have raced LDs for fun when I
don't have a 50 mile horse ready to go. I don't have a problem with racing
*any* distance ****if the horse is ready**** There are many people who do
not have the resources (time/money/appropriate horse) to correctly prepare
and compete 50s and I don't feel they are any kind of 'sub-set'. They are
running a shorter race -correctly termed "limited distance" as compared to
50+ mile "Endurance Races" and have no desire to 'move up' ....why are some
    people so offended by that??

I've been managing rides since 1989 - not every year, but two rides some
years - I'd have to check the records to be sure, but we've only had a few
horses treated in all those years, and IIRC they were 50 and 100 mile
horses. -and we've always placed the LD riders according to speed and the
    AERC BC formula.
