Re: [RC] Human Hydration - Maureen A. Fager

 Hi,
I have found that keeping hydrated at rides really really helps my riding
and recovery, but staying hydrated is a challenge. The last ride I went to
I used bottled water. What I did was fill empty plastic bottles, 16oz size,
I had 3 of them, and made sure I drank one full at the VC's. I had 2 long
holds and one short, missed the bottle on the short one. In addition to my
water bottles on my saddle, this was a good way for me to see and keep track
of just how much I was drinking and it made a difference. I also understand
that marathon and other distance human athletes will tank up on water before
the day of their event. So, making sure you are drinking 1-2 days out
before a ride is important. Cut back on caffinated drinks a day or two out
(and ecessive alchohol) as these have a diuretic affect. For electrolytes
I've tried different things, from antacids to potatoe chips to human e-lytes
and sports drinks. Don't know if they help that much, but still use them.
Antacids is an old trick I read about on RC, whats nice is you can easily
carry them in a saddle pack and they are cheap. Good luck!
Happy Trails,
