    Well, here's a modest proposal...
    
    The idea you can read more about at
    http://www.thewaywewin.net/index.htm took root a couple of years ago
    when Matthew Mackay-Smith, DVM (AERC Hall of Fame; one of the architects
    of the "gate into hold" evolution in the early '80s; Old Dominion/Tevis
    winner, same horse, same year; Medical Editor of EQUUS, etc.) came to
    the realization (among others) that our society?s tolerance for risk,
    perceived as pointless when
    at the expense of animals who have no vote in the matter, has been
    rapidly declining. Rather than wait for forces from the outside to
    change our sport for us, he decided to take action from the inside.
    Check out the web site and see what you think of this fledgling,
    idea-in-progress, and feel free to send in your comments and become part
    of the brigade for change.
    This month in Virginia, the OD tested the Way We Win concept as an
    overlay on the standard format. A report from Matthew is forthcoming.
