So we've done two rides and made completion on both of
'em - but what is with the balls-out Ricky Racer types????  I've been
appalled by the sight of seasoned riders having their pulled horses hooked up
to IV's and hoping they live through the night.  Is there some million dollar
purse out there for these rides that they don't tell us newbies about?

No they are just rather stupid, selfishtypes who don't have the solid foundation of working knowlege and compassion to understand that these are living beings, not motorcycles. This leads into the theory that LD is  abad thing, since those Ricky Racers lack teh experience to "know" how to safely ride their horses, and all of those LD riders, race their horses into the ground. Hate to bring this up, but there are 50 milers and up who do the SAME THING - and they are legion - and they are displaying this mentality over TWICE the distance. Clearly, ego gets in the way of any modicum of common sense or decency in these cases. Fortunately, the majority of riders are NOT this way. Fortunately, at least around here, we TRY to weed those dudes out. Too bad any flake can hang a shingle and make money calling themselves a trainer.  I can count offhand 5 people who I have SEEN "teaching" new riders, many small children, who don't know how to ride THEMSELVES! I am reminded of one local who makes "living" hauling youngsters to ride af etr ride, galloping about teh trails in tennies and English saddles, body slamming into other riders, moutain bikers, running horses into lameness. Yes, GOOD example, lady.

So your question - what is the big purse? It isn't a purse, it is a warped ego. Perhpas a mandatopry hobby or two would be helpful:)!
