    [RC] How Sad/Newbies - Rides 2 Far

    > I'd sure like to read the definition of what constitutes a
    > "newbie". Seriously.
    > If an "apparent" newbie starts a conversation regarding anything
"endurance"...at least the dialogue has begun and intercourse can begin.

Oh garsh, you had to call me on my rambling and make me be clear...that
requires effort. :-P I think "newbie" is relative. In comparison to
Melissa Crain and Susan Kasemayer I am a "newbie" at running up front. I
sort of ask questions "with my hat in my hand" and wouldn't dare give
    them advice on strategy.

If I went to a multi-day I would be the ultimate newbie. I've never done
one. So I wouldn't dare give Bev Gray advice on how to avoid scrataches
    in that situation.

If someone wants to talk about doing 50's at a medium to semi-fast
pace...maybe a competition every 2 or 3 weeks during the season, how to
balance that with raising a family, etc. I'm an....uh.."oldbie?" I can
speak with authority on what has worked for me.

I think in this particular post I was talking more about "armchair
quarterbacks". There's newbies who get out there and ride and almost
immediately earn everyone's respect...then there's those who *talk* about
riding. They think it over a lot from their living room and then they
tell people how it is. It sounds like they've got everything all figured
out and then suddenly you realize, it's all theory. They haven't tested
any of it and they're not telling anyone that. Maybe they aren't really
newbies...since they've never really even gotten started...shouldn't you
at least get started to be a newbie? My guess is that most "true
newbies" don't realize that the ones that are prone to speak "not from
experience" aren't "extreme oldbies". Have I confused you enough? >g<

Right now, I think I talk way too much. There's people on here with a
hundred times more experience than me who could answer these...but then
they're probably out riding their horses.
