[RC] How Sad - Rides 2 Far

    >Which brings me to another point (feel free
    > to delete if you experienced pros don't care to hear the opinion of a
    newbie.)

Why would you think that nobody wants to hear from newbies?Heck, on my
last ride report I told more about a newbie who did her first ride than I
did about my own. When I read a newbie's story about finishing their
first ride that has lots of !!! in it it makes me feel good. Reminds me
of how excited about this sport I was when I first started and the things
about it that made it special. The only complaints I can think of that
might make you think people have anything against "newbies" opinion is
when someone who has very little experience speaks with authority as if
they have tons of experience and don't admit they're a newbie...which is
misleading to the person on the other end of the conversation. The good
thing about the opinion of newbies is that they bring in fresh
perspective and may accidentally discover something handy because they
were free of preconceived notions. That said, I was the WORST sort of
know it all as a newbie. I read every magazine article and every book
out on endurance, and I would have been willing to give Becky Hart advice
    if she'd been handy. >g<

    > yesterday - middle of the pack because so many people ignored the >
heat and > the difficulty of the ride.....and the motto! To finish is to
    win.

I remember when I had a 7mph horse. That was his speed. Anything above
that was stressful to him and simply not good. We went his optimum speed
and finished middle of the pack. At that time in my mind it seemed anyone
who was going faster than me was over pacing their horse. Then I got on
a 10-12 mph horse. He was soooo much faster, but I can honestly say was
traveling farther below his "maximum output" than the 7mph horse. It was
a real eye opener for me. Don't assume that just because they went
faster they were more reckless. Granted, there are those who over do
it...but I'll bet there were a few up there who were cruisin'.

Don't know about other areas, but I haven't seen a horse hooked up to an
IV in a long time. Seems the vets have gotten better at stopping them
    before it becomes a problem.
