    Nope, not stupid at all.  Before any concentrated substance leaves the
    stomach and moves into the small intestine to be absorbed, it has to be
    diluted.  If the required fluid comes sloshing down the throat along with
    the salt, then it all moves on down the line that much quicker.  If the body
    has to use it's own 'onboard' fluids via gastric juices, saliva, etc, then
    there's a delay, as well as potential detriment if onboard supplies are
    already decreased.  So getting electrolytes down along with water is
    **always** ideal---it's just that sometimes you don't have that option.  If
    you do, use it.
