    I had a mare that used to "attack" other horses, if she couldn't kick, she tried to bite.  It takes work, but eventually you can get them to stop.  She will still kick if a horse repeatedly runs up on her butt, but she always gives notice, and I nip it before it happens.  

    Knowing your horses limits and your limits to control it is very important before you do a ride IMHO.  If you know there is a problem, be aware, and be wary.  You don't want to sort out who's fault it is on the trail.
