Re: [RC] Born to Trot? - Maggie & David

My old Morgan gelding, Bubba, has a heck of a trot. We were trotting along a country road once, when a Volkswagen (the old kind) came up next to us and kept looking at his speedometer. Bubba doesn't need much encouragement, so when we got to the next intersection, the driver stopped and said "Wow! 27MPH!!" Maybe his speedometer was off, but I know Bubba flies. He wasn't even at full speed then, being on a road. Most of my friends' horses would be extending their canter when he was still trotting. His hrm would show in the 140's at a trot. It would go through the roof at a canter because he would get so torked up, wanting to gallop.

We only ever did a handful of 50's, but we top tenned three of them. Never broke from a trot.

Maggie Pritchard--and I always rode sidesaddle!
Bubba--them was the glory days, Mom
Am I the only one who has horses that are definitely lower while trotting than cantering?
