Re: [RC] Green Horses - Truman Prevatt

The normal curtsey is to put a yellow ribbon in a stallion and and red ribbon in a kicker. I'd use a red ribbon for a green horse that I was unsure of how he would act. However, the ribbon is no guarantee that all the riders around will pay much attention. I've been riding with someone riding a stallion with a long yellow ribbon and a couple people kept tail gating us ( I was on a mare at the time who didn't particularly like tail gaters ). We asked them if they wanted to pass, noooooooo they were just fine. We asked them to back off then and they did for awhile but caught up again and started to ride on our heels. I mentioned the ribbon in the stallion's tail and it was "like I didn't see that?"

Some people just don't get it and probably never will. These are probably the same people that tail gate at 80 mph on the interstate also. I always ride with one eye on my horse and one on the beggers around me if I'm not out there alone.

As Bob points out bad things can happen when people don't respect the rear end of a horse. This is ture of color of horse and/or rider, green, pink, orange, :-).

I was joking when I suggested the lime-green bumpers to Howard, ala NASCAR...but perhaps it's not such a bad idea to have a designated tail ribbon color or rider armband that says "green horse".  Something that says "Ack!!!!!  I'm a new horse --give me a little space, I have no clue what I'm going to do next and neither does my rider--potential explosion imminent!!!"  Sort of like the shirt I want to have made to wear to hay auctions that says "I'm NOT buying horse hay!"  when I go looking for sheep hay....but that's another story  (moving to a new agricultural culture is SO fun....*rolls eyes*).
